The Spy Who Came To Brunch: How a British Agent Crashed a Hollywood Couple's Date

For seven years beginning in 1974, Alison and Joe Vida, his best friend and navigator, flew the Blackbird across the globe, snapping photos of Soviet submarine bases, Vietnamese POW camps, and enemy secrets. Its cameras could practically get a shot of a golf ball from 80,000 feet.

Wells Fargo Advisors and Wilmington Trust were major sponsors of the event. Individual Spring Brunch Patrons included Blenda and Bruce Armistead, Merrilie Ford, John and Kathleen Franke, Martha Horner, Margot Miller, Gary Pearce, Irene Schmidt, and Albert and Eleanor Smith. Joan Dent provided piano accompaniment as guests placed bids on the donated auction items and enjoyed their gourmet brunch fare.

The Spy Who Came To Brunch

Whether you're watching the ball drop from the couch or ringing in 2023 out on the town, for a lot of us, the best part of celebrating the new year comes tomorrow morning. Yep, I'm talking about New Year's Day brunch. Starting the year off with a big, beautiful meal shared with family and friends is a tradition for many on the 1st of January. But if you're anything like me, the holiday season has left you with very little time to actually cook that meal, which begs the question - how can we put together a fabulous New Year's brunch without that much time? To help with that question, we've called someone who knows a thing or two about brunch.

NADWORNY: Before we jump into specific recipes, let's talk about "The Big Brunch." So you're no stranger to cooking for the camera. Your videos for The New York Times have gathered a lot of views, and fans might know you from your test kitchen days at Bon Appetit. I'm wondering what made you decide to do a cooking competition show?

NADWORNY: OK, so let's talk about actually preparing a meal. If you were planning your own brunch in a pinch, what's, like, your go-to dish, and can you talk us through, maybe, some of the steps to make it?

EL-WAYLLY: Yeah. So my favorite place to brunch is actually at my home because then you can just really casually hang out for a really long time. But I want to keep it low-lift because it's early. You know? I'm not great at planning the night before, so I like to do kind of a mix of store-bought stuff with, like, a couple of homemade things. One of my favorite things is to just go pick up some bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon, and then my homemade addition will be I'll chop some onions and some herbs and let everyone make a little spread. Maybe I'll make a bagel chip if I'm feeling crazy. But I think brunch at home should be as little work as possible.

Another, like, go-to brunch for us is always I'll make a Spanish tortilla, which is pretty much you beat up some eggs and then you slowly cook some potatoes and onions in a lot of olive oil. Once it's really nice and tender, you strain all that out, stir it into your eggs, and then you cook that whole mixture together until it's, like, perfectly set and custardy. It's almost like a crustless quiche, and it's great because you can serve it hot or at room temperature and then just open up a bunch of tins of seafood, get a really nice piece of bread, and then let everyone hang out.

EL-WAYLLY: For brunch, especially, instead of, like, really spending a lot of time on the food, I like to find out what each guest's favorite cocktail or beverage is, and then I'll take a little time doing that. So I have one friend whose favorite drink is a cosmo. So I, like, premade a batch of cosmos, and then he could, like, pour himself a cosmo whenever he wants. If you have a nonalcoholic friend, there's so many amazing bubbly NA drinks these days. Stock your fridge with that. It's like that extra little touch. So even if you bought everything, they'll remember that you thought of them and you got their favorite drink.

Taii K. Austin, producer, House of Lies (Showtime) Requiring black writers also to be performers. I hope Lena Waithe and Issa Rae keep doing it for decades. But some of us want to stay behind the camera.

All five shows ultimately succeeded at their tasks, fusing multiple elements to make television that is truly unique. On each panel, collaboration between departments was emphasized as an essential part of the creative process, with showrunners communicating a clear vision and department heads applying impeccable craftsmanship to complete it. Then once the shows were completed, they simply had to trust that their audiences would be smart enough to understand the work they did. It all came down to trust. Trust in their viewers, and trust in each other.

In The Suicide Squad, Wuntch initially seems to accept her role in Jake's scheme to expose Commissioner John Kelly's illegal crime-solving tactics. However, she ends up sabotaging Jake's first plan involving C.J's fake kidnapping, stating that Holt would never trust her with the operation anyway. Jake manages to convince her to return and be involved in a new scheme. Holt is forced to pose as her 'lover' so that no one would question his presence beside her. However, Wuntch ends up betraying Holt and teaming up with Kelly. In the time she was out of the squad, she made a deal with The Vulture to make him Captain of the 69th Precinct (his dream job). With their hands 'clean' and C.J on their side, Kelly initially has the upper hand in the situation. However, when he opts to celebrate his victory with photos, Wuntch double-crosses him, revealing that Jake's actual plan was to make it appear that she had become a turncoat in order to access Kelly's phone. Securing the information they needed, the squad forces Kelly to step down as the Commissioner, which allows Wuntch to step in as Acting Commissioner. Disgruntled at Holt's claims that he became a detective within a month (something that was not allowed), Wuntch demotes Holt to traffic control. This allows the 99's budget to open up, preventing Terry's transfer to Staten Island.

I had The Shop Burger. Apparently, they were out of the regular bun they use, so the burger came to us in what can best be described as Texas Toast on steroids. It actually worked for me! I loved the grilled onions and home-made pickles. The ground beef was the smash burger type, so it needs the two patties. Good char and still juicy. All in all, that was a tasty burger. Fries were so-so.

When she realizes Will isn't in his bedroom, Joyce phones Karen Wheeler (Cara Buono) to see if Will is at her house with her son and his friend, Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard). The camera cuts to the Wheeler's breakfast table, which also features scrambled eggs and orange juice, plus pancakes and maple syrup. Mike is pouring Mrs. Butterworth's over his eggs. "That's disgusting," Mike's sister Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) tells him. "You're disgusting," Mike retorts, before pouring syrup onto Nancy's eggs, too.

We came as a couple Christmas weekend in NYC.The Wallace was a great choice that we will return to again. Check in and out was effortless. Rooms are brand new and immaculate. Our standard king room felt spacious
